Auditions

It somehow waits to hit me until about ten minutes before auditions are scheduled to start.  Holy cats – who’s going to show up…anybody?  We specified something…will we get it?  And actors start coming in.  They are armed with bottled water, writing implements and copies of their resumes.  They are warm and friendly to each other as they start to fill the room.

And they are wonderful.  They are on top of their game, ready to show you something and change it on a dime if you ask them.  They have absolutely no conflicts and will do whatever you need.  From that miraculous group, we have to choose.

Choose we did, but I have to say it made me want to do more shows, make more opportunities to work with some absolutely amazing people – some of whom reminded me just how good they are, and some I didn’t know before and really want to work with on a future project.  No kidding.

About Renee

Renee Sevier-Monsey is president of West End Players Guild’s board of directors, which means she’s learned to tie pretty bows on the brownies (thank you very much), knows where the mops and buckets are stored, is really good about bringing doughnuts to set builds, and is constantly trying to balance the length of her curtain speeches between all the stuff she has to tell you and the fact that the actors are timing her from the wings. She has her MFA in directing from Lindenwood University, and is a continuing student in the theatre department of the School of Hard Knocks, which has many prestigious graduates. Theatre is a family affair at her house, which gives new meaning to “I can’t, I have rehearsal.”
